Lunes, Agosto 22.

ESS-SOUTH 鈥 The Vision-Mission Day and School Fair were consecutively held online last February 23-24, 2022. The two-day event was filled with non-academic activities led by ESS-South鈥檚 Faculty, Houses, Center for Student Well-being (CSWB), and Supreme Student Council (SSC).

鈥淓nlivening SetonYan Spirit: Sharing Our Hearts and Soul鈥 was the theme used during the Vision-Mission Day. The event started with a Virtual Mass in the morning, and it was followed by the National Calisthenics dance exercise.

The CSWB also sponsored a short-film viewing for the Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) divisions. After that, a friendly batch competition occurred among Setonians who played Family Feud, Escape Room, and Quiz Show.

Aside from playing games, a Pep Talk, Vocation Talk, and Symposium were simultaneously held for the learners of Grades 10-12. These events were followed by an Online Art Quiz in the afternoon.

The Vision-Mission Day ended with the Students Transition Empowerment Program for the Grade 10 parents in preparation for their transition as incoming SHS parents.

鈥淧hantasmagoria: Dare to Dream鈥 was the theme for School Fair 2022. The second day kicked off with a Morning Prayer and the National Calisthenics dance exercise.

After a short break, Setonians played in various House-sponsored activities as part of  an inter-House competition. The House of Saint John XXIII emerged as the winner with a total of 273 participants who played in their sponsored activities.

In the afternoon, a Book Film Adaptation for the JHS and SHS students was conducted by the librarians from the Information and Literacy Unit.

The School Fair ended with The Amazing Race: Escape 2 Fantasy, which was organized by the SSC for the seven houses. Various games were played, and the house that finished first won the race.

The House of St. Paul was crowned as the winner of the race, followed by the Houses of San Pedro Calungsod and San Lorenzo Ruiz respectively.

糖心传媒-South’s Grade School Student Council and Supreme Student Council (SSC) launched the program 鈥淐hristmas Carols for a Pail of Love鈥 on December 10, 2021.

The Student Councils planned a video of carols, prayers, and presentations with the school Principal. The video was then sent to every Setonian Family via Facebook post and e-mail for them to give donations.

A few weeks later, the SSC posted a letter of gratitude which included the total funds collected for this activity on their social media accounts: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. With this project, the accumulated sum of 12,000 pesos went to the school’s bank account specifically prepared for the project, setting aside a specific amount of money to allot for the four pails to be donated.

The success of the fundraising project last 2020 entitled 鈥淢aagang Pamamasko ng Mga Setonian鈥 served as an inspiration to continue giving back to the community during the Christmas season.

According to Ms. Nenet Ayson, Assistant Principal for the High School division and one of the key figures behind the project, its goals were not only to help those in need, but to instill the values of initiative, collaboration, and perseverance, and for opportunities to appear in each and every Setonian family though the dedication of carols and prayers.

This project, among others, displays the core principles of faith, love, and selfless service that Setonians heavily honor. With this, Setonians prove once again that they are truly Seton Strong

糖心传媒-South marked the start of the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in the late afternoon of December 2, 2021, shared through a virtual live stream on their YouTube channel. The event was celebrated with the faculty, staff, Family Council, Supreme Student Council, and parish companions on campus.

The Christmas Tree stood above the establishment鈥檚 parking lot, illuminating the campus at night. The ceremony commenced at 5:00 p.m., spearheaded by ten speakers, including the School President, Dr. Roberto T. Borromeo, School Principal Miss Gloria Medina, and two singers, igniting the Christmas Spirit with liturgy to welcome the cherished moment of the year, Christmas day.

The solemnity was led by Sr. Lergie Tabasa, Ms. Christita Fernandez, Sir Giovanni Virador, Dr. Roberto Borromeo, Sir Charles Jerome Iglesia, Julia Naval, Ms. Ann Samson, Kapitana Sapinoso, Sir Ferdinand Alido, and Sir Estela Patricio, along with the readers: Miss Gloria Medina, Sir Hanz Dominic Tecson, Mrs. Binuhe, and a representative from the Parish.

The school president shares a quote of gratitude from an American monk, Thomas Merton: 鈥淔or the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.鈥

The countdown concluded the anticipated lighting when the audience exchanged cheers along with the flashing of the ornamented tree as Sir Marc Angelo Balon and Ms. Krisha Neil Videna accompanied the moment with a rendition of a Christmas song on stage.

Whereas the fruitful liturgy bears kindled light to everyone as they reach home: 鈥淭he light of the world, our salvation, will be born.鈥

Once again, the Seton community and its seven Houses celebrated Christmas through the 2021 Inter-House Christmas Carol Video Contest held last December 3, 2021, courtesy of the ESS-South Supreme Student Council (SSC).

Crowned champion of the event for the second year in a row was the House of San Pedro Calungsod, while the House of St. Peter earned second place, and third place went to the House of St. John XXIII. Coming in close were the following Houses, in order: St. John Paul II, St. James and St. Paul tied for fifth rank, and San Lorenzo Ruiz.

Working behind the scenes to organize the contest alongside the SSC was Ms. Nenet Ayson, Assistant Principal for High School. Judges from ESS include: Ms. Gloria Medina, Sir Eric Sico, Ms. Kathrina Corpuz, Ms. Krizha Veneda, while a judge from Indonesia International School was also invited, Mr. Alfred Masola.

The Houses gave it their all in creating their Christmas Caroling videos wherein each choir must prepare 3 songs accompanied by instrumental, electronic, or acoustic music, optionally incorporating simple dance choreography and various digital media.

Each of the video presentations was scored by a recognized panel of judges based on Musical Rendition, Artistry and Musicality, Message, Content, and Theme, Technical and Graphics Technique, and lastly Audience Impact, finding strength in numbers measuring the heart reactions on each post.

On the contest and its importance and relevance to the Seton community, Ms. Nenet says, 鈥淭his competition helped boost the Christmas spirits of the Houses, as it showcased different Houses’ singing talents and skills. The performers also shared an experience that created connections within the ensemble, resulting in the organic opportunities of interpersonal virtual connection as the Houses performed and fostered new bonds among the ensemble.鈥

糖心传媒-South showcased excellence in journalism as ten of its learners competed in the first online CavPUSO Schools Press Conference held last November 26, 2021, hosted by Academia De Julia Victoria of Cavite and spearheaded by the Cavite Province Union of School Organization Inc.鈥檚 president, Dr. Marietta Opulencia.

ESS-South was one of the 24 schools from all over Cavite that participated in the program with the theme: 鈥淒igital Trust and Intuition in 糖心传媒 Journalism: A Challenge of the New Normal.鈥

The press conference aims 鈥渢o address the gap of 糖心传媒 Journalism exposure among private schools in the province of Cavite and to sustain this scholastic journalism program in time of the pandemic in compliance with RA 7079, otherwise known as the 糖心传媒 Journalism Act of 1991鈥 (CavPuso Facebook Page).

Ms. Aubelle Floranda and Ms. Dolly de los Reyes from the English Department coached the ten Setonian representatives to compete in the following categories: Editorial Writing, News Writing, Feature Writing, Sports Writing, Column Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Photojournalism, and Editorial Cartooning.

The categories were further separated based on the media: English and Filipino, and into three brackets (A-C), splitting Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School learners. The contestants had one hour to write their articles after a lecture on their respective category.

The announcement of winners commenced the next day, November 27. Among the ten Setonian representatives, the following six learners managed to seize a spot in the top three:

Also worth mentioning are the four learners who ranked within the top ten, namely:听

  • Juliana Colleen Consorio (fourth place in English Copyreading and Headline Writing)听
  • Ireland Star Laguio (fourth place in English Editorial Cartooning)
  • Penelope Wong (sixth place in English Column Writing)
  • Patricia Emmanuelle Bansil (eighth place in English Feature Writing)

The panel of judges was composed of Mr. Patrick T. Coquilla, Dr. Alexander Blanco, and Dr. Lilibeth Gregorio, all winners of the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), as well as Dr. Cris E. Avila, winner of the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

The winners were acknowledged by the organization in a live stream on their Facebook page. Candidates in the top ten are automatically qualified to partake in the Montessori School Administrators Association (MSAA) press conference.

It will undoubtedly be interesting to see the school鈥檚 performance in future campus journalism ventures.

糖心传媒-South commemorates the annual celebration of the United Nations (UN) this A.Y. 2021鈥2022 with the theme: 鈥淩ecovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World.”听

This was done through three different inter-house competitions spearheaded by the Araling Panlipunan Department. The houses of St. James and San Lorenzo Ruiz were crowned as the overall winners while St. John Paul II and San Pedro Calungsod tailed in second and third place.

On October 15, 2021, the Essay Writing Contest, prepared by Mr. Jerome David Tan, who presented the participants with the prompt 鈥淪DGs: A Societal Recovery Guide for the Pandemic Period and Beyond,鈥 was held during the learners鈥 house time at 1:15 – 2:15 pm on the Zoom platform. The participants were given an hour to accomplish their works, which reflected the ways on achieving a sustainable world that was once devastated by the pandemic.听

The essay that won first place was written by Samantha Joy Edu from St. John Paul II, second place was written by Aya Berenize Pugay from San Lorenzo Ruiz, and third place was written by Marian Therese Constantino from St. James.听

On the same day, the Digital Poster-Making Contest, prepared by Ms. Sally Garcia, entitled 鈥淭hrough COVID, We Rise and Sustain,鈥 was simultaneously held. Digital artworks made on the participants鈥 platforms of choice showcased and acknowledged the resilience needed for the UN鈥檚 goals and were submitted a day after the official start of the competition to provide ample time for the artists.听

Partners Gabreiella Felice Domingo & Denzel Mykelo Abad of San Pedro Calungsod snatched first place with their digital poster, while second place was given to Juliana Colleen Consorio & Samantha Jang of San Lorenzo Ruiz. Third place went to the duo of Erisse Mikaela Landas & Julisse Mikaela Tejon from St. James.

On October 22, 2021 the following week, the UN Virtual Quiz Bee, facilitated and prepared by Ms. Bianca Mae Palmero, was held on Zoom during the learners鈥 club time at 1:15鈥2:15 p.m. via the Kahoot! platform. It was streamed live on Facebook for everyone outside of the competition to watch. It consisted of three rounds separated by difficulty with ten questions each鈥攖he topics included general knowledge and facts, flags, UN Members, current events, and global issues.听

Out of the twenty-one participants from the seven houses, Daniel Moses Villanueva from St. James scored the highest, followed by Juan Gabriel Nicolas from St. Peter, and Arcus Mendoza from San Lorenzo Ruiz.听

This quiz bee, along with the other aforementioned inter-house competitions, helped in immersing Setonians from all houses in the UN鈥檚 goals of achieving a societal state wherein inequalities are lessened and everyone is provided with access to proper and holistic sustainable resources, in combating attempts to use the COVID-19 virus as a means to promote discrimination and hatred against individuals, and lastly in promoting unity and camaraderie among housemates.

The new SSC started the year with its brand new logo and hashtags #SSCEizeTheDay and #SetonStrongerConnected. When asked about the idea behind the rebrand, SSC Chancellor, Juliana Naval, says:

The thought was simple. We鈥檙e done with the adjustment period, and we鈥檒l now take every opportunity to give back to the Seton community.

The goal stays the same. Serve by creating programs that would benefit Setonians, and be able to carry out all prospected plans this year while staying true to the organization鈥檚 vision and mission.听

With the new wave comes new trends. This is what we should look forward to starting this school year starting with the SSC鈥檚 new members.

Unity in Diversity. In the same interview with Juliana, she pointed out the impact that diversity brought into the council. 鈥淲eights are lifted off of one another and you can really feel that everyone is willing to help and always at their best. They鈥檙e good with what they鈥檙e assigned.鈥 This year鈥檚 pool is right in the middle, both equally having 16 students from Junior High School and Senior High School. While there is not much of an age difference nor any gaps to fill, the newly entered half has got something to offer: their fresh ideas. Plus, teamwork makes the dream work. The number of members and their individual abilities combined just works wonders.

Well, for Julia, 鈥渨e鈥檙e always improving. There is still a lot to give and to work on, but the SSC has got its eyes on the prize, and that is performing duties for the student body, making programs, giving, and seizing opportunities. It doesn鈥檛 end there, though; the organization strives to go beyond Setonian grounds and offer help to outside beneficiaries through their outreach programs.

It has been nearly two years since the world stopped and coerced the world into life-changing adjustments – the SSC bids goodbye to its beginnings and welcomes learning, leading, and serving as it is. They will continue to function and vow to ceaselessly progress鈥 now taking every opportunity to give back, seizing the day, and making the best out of everything.听
